John and Jeff Beuglas28 viewsIn March, AHSA member Jeff Beuglas and his dad John travelled to Moncton, New Brunswick where they visited two skateparks: Riverview Skatepark and Youth Centre (indoor) and Moncton Skatepark (outdoor). These photos were taken at Moncton Skatepark.

(In Feb 2007 AHSA took a bus load of skateboarders to Riverview indoor skatepark. You can see photos of this on page 3... click on "Album List" above.)

Jeff skating at Moncton skatepark46 viewsJeff Beuglas March 19 at 5:17pm:
I went to the outdoor skatepark and practiced... I am now able to skete down ramps, now just need to learn how to go up :). It was really fun and had to go to the indoor skate park, that we found our selfs, and asked whoever was at the door and gave us some valuable info. I don't know if you heard of him but a guy named Ross Smith, East Coast Street Styles, designs skateparks. I will meet him tonight at the indoor skatepark and get more info. We need to start petitions, ask counselors or recreation people to organize the rules or somehting. "We need to start out small and little by little, grow & grow." That's what the counselor I met told me. She also told me that if we could, we should build it across from the police station, in the arena parking lot.

I will send you some photo's, Jeff.

Moncton skatepark opened in the spring of 1999.39 viewsThis from City of Moncton Community Development Officer Shane Porter:

"Other than garbage pick up (constant), we haven't had any maintenance issues to date. We spent money preparing and loading the site and the company that did the cement work obviously did their homework as well - No cracks or repairs to date! Our park has been operational since spring of 1999."

"Other than that we have had some great success with the Park and the local skaters. Most have done a great job of policing themselves and we haven't had any real major issues. Park of the overall success is due to the fact that we have great support from the local skate shop and the kids have rally taken ownership of their facility. Also, it doesn't hurt that we have built the park in a non residential area close to the Downtown core."
