This skateboarder seems to hang in mid-air as he grabs for his board on the half pipe set up at King's Theatre in Annapolis Royal during Go Skateboarding Day Saturday, June 21. 32 viewsIt was Go Skateboarding Day in Annapolis Royal last Saturday, and not only did youngsters have a chance to try the halfpipe set up at King's Theatre across from the Farmers' and Traders' Market, the Annapolis West Seniors Games group donated $100 towards a future Annapolis Youth Park. Leo's Cafe in Annapolis Royal made a donation of $500 towards the project -- which will include a skateboarding facility.

halfpipe in Annapolis Royal, overview42 views(Apr 25, 2009 from another website)

Annapolis Royal plans to build a new $300 000 skate park, and they have a site. But for now, these kids will have to make do with a half pipe on St. George Street. A creative short term solution.

Halfpipe a success in downtown Annapolis Royal 4222 Ju0747 viewsThe community of Annapolis Royal has provided an Action Sports Ramp (aka halfpipe) for skateboarders, BMXers and in-line skaters while they raise funds for a permanent skatepark.

The halfpipe is located right in the middle of the downtown Annapolis Royal... beside the waterfront boardwalk, across from the Farmers and Traders Market, and just a few minutes walk from Fort Anne National Historic Site.

"Many new kids have taken up the sport now that it's been brought to the forefront in town."--André Bouchard, Active Living Facilitator, County of Annapolis

Cost to build: $1,600 plus labour

Dimensions: 24 ft long x 8 ft wide x 4 ft high
(André recommends that wider would be better, i.e. 24 ft long x 12 or 16 ft wide x 4 ft tall.)

"Me and the kids built the ramp. A few parents helped."--André Bouchard, Active Living Facilitator, Municipality of the County of Annapolis

For info, call 532-0286." --upper right corner of sign

The halfpipe was a joint project of the County of Annapolis, Club 400* and Annapolis Society for Youth Friendly Public Spaces (ASYPS)**.

*Club 400 - The Order of Active Living takes its name from The Order of Good Cheer (historic social club formed 400 years ago in 1606). Its goal is to inspire people of all ages in Annapolis County to become more physically active all year round. Club 400 is part of the Annapolis County Active Living Strategy.
